A Successful VALMUN Conference

On November 17, 18 and 19 American School of Valencia hosted VALMUN 2017, an academic simulation of the United Nations for Middle School students. Over 200 student-delegates representing seven international schools took part in the 2017 conference and its main topic this year was the achievement of “a stable and modern international society.”

Acting as UN representatives, VALMUN delegates must prepare and support political resolutions on those topics included in the agenda. Debates follow official UN procedures and are developed in English.

Seven schools coming from four different countries participated in this latest edition. “We had two delegations coming from France, one from Luxembourg, one from Turkey, and three from schools in Spain”, VALMUN coordinator Mr. Marc Boyer explained. “Schools with MUN programs in Middle School can choose among several conferences across Europe but VALMUN has grown thanks to an excellent organization, but also because delegates enjoy the city and visit an official UN facility during the conference”, he explained when pointing the support of the UN Support Base in Valencia.

The ASV delegation was composed of 43 student-delegates (from 7th and 8th grade), a group of experience 11th and 12th graders leading the committees, and a willing group of admins.
