Passing of Asia Alcantud Campo

American School of Valencia has had to face this week the heartbreaking and unexpected death of Ms. Asia Alcantud Campo, one of our beloved Grade 11 students,  at the tender age of 16 years old. Asia was the daughter of Ms. Purificación Campo; former ASV teacher, Mr. Miguel Angel Alcantud; and the step-daughter of former ASV High School Principal, Ms. Robyn Chapel. Asia has attended ASV since September 2013 and was studying in the IB Diploma Program.

The passing of our student happened on Saturday, November 3, 2018. Advisors in Middle and High School had to share the sad news on Monday morning to the students in those grades.  All day long the school counselors and a grief specialist were available to talk to anyone needing emotional support. In the evening, the leadership team and the president of the ASV Student Council went to the funeral home to extend their condolences to the family. The Grade 11 class sent flowers for their beloved classmate.

The special memorial activities at ASV took place on Friday, November 9, 2018. Grade 11 students and any other student wishing to join participated in an art workshop. The outcome of this activity was on the stage during the memorial assembly for Grades 9-12 led by Ms. Isabel Castro and Dr. Maria Alonso. A slideshow featured pictures of Asia’s life at ASV. A student read a message and a special song for this time was played.

Next week, the ASV Varsity Volleyball team will travel to Milan, Italy to compete in the 2018 ESC Volleyball Tournament. Coach Gema Soria and the players will wear a special bandanna designed to pay tribute to Asia, who was member of the team.
