ASV Delegation in THIMUN

ASV students represented Armenia at the 52nd annual THIMUN conference held at The Hague (Netherlands) during the week of January 27 to 31, 2020.

THIMUN is a Model United Nations simulation which attracts 3,200 students from across the globe who meet to propose resolutions that address real-world problems across a myriad of committees.

Our 14  students were busy studying about global issues to be addressed in the assigned THIMUN committees (Human Rights, Environmental, Economic Social and many more) and preparing resolutions and speeches for this Model United Nations activity.  The students when asked on their final day referenced a variety of moods and emotions they were experiencing such as pride and confidence.  Many who had been in such Middle School conferences as VALMUN (American School of Valencia MUN) and MADMUN (American School of Madrid MUN), were please they took risks, left fears behind, stepped outside of their comfort zones and were inspired by international peers with whom they have formed new friendships with. They also stated that spending the week exploring, debating and critically thinking about real global concerns in collaborative settings has lead to unfathomable personal growth.

Our school is also pleased to announce that Fernando T. (Grade 11) served as a Deputy Chair in the General Assembly Committee, the first time an ASV student has served in this capacity at THIMUN. Congratulations Fernando on earning this amazing honor and well done!

This is ASV’s 25 year participating in THIMUN.  Students joining this co-curricular program reinforce their communication and debate skills and engage in addressing these global issues.
