Earlier in February, the American School of Valencia was officially informed that the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) has re-authorized our school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IBDP). This decision is the conclusion of the evaluation report submitted in which, in addition, the IBO congratulates ASV “on the strong program implementation” that was evident in the self-study. Consequently, ASV will be for five more years an IB World School.
The re-authorization process is pretty similar to the accreditation process held by the Middle States Association (MSA) and requires a thorough self-study process where the school describes how the IBDP is implemented according to a number of academic and organizational standards and practices. The self-study was coordinated by Mr. Josep Vicent Frechina, High School Principal and IB Coordinator at ASV, and included team revision, the participation of stakeholders (board of governors, parent delegates…) and recollection of multiple pieces of evidence.
The evaluation report congratulated American School of Valencia for its complete and rigorous self-study and highlighted particular strengths of ASV offering the IB Diploma: “The wide range of language options offered, the robust system in place to analyze data, and systems to support teachers in developing approaches to teaching and approaches to learning”. The IBO has also invited ASV to share this practice with schools and educators of the IB community.
