Dr. Monica Medina from California State University visited ASV and spent three days working with our homeroom teachers and English teachers in 6th, 7th and 8th grades. She also had specific meetings with the Spanish Department and the staff in Preschool. This collaboration, which started in 2015-2016, is strengthening the collaboration between teachers, which is directly related to student learning in the Writing Workshop

Ms. Medina finished her time in Valencia leading a parent workshop. She described what international schools are doing to be successful in these areas. Research tells that reading and writing skills grow when teachers share with students good books and good student writing, offer daily opportunities to read and write, and introduce a variety of teaching techniques. Homework must be focused on reading and writing tasks
