The American School of Valencia is delighted to welcome Mr. Daniel Kriebel as our new School Director. Bringing more than a decade of senior leadership experience across international and American independent schools, Mr. Kriebel joins our community with a deep commitment to academic excellence, meaningful relationships, and student-centered learning.
Throughout his career, Mr. Kriebel has led schools across the United States, South Korea, and Southern Africa, serving in key leadership roles including Head of Lower & Middle Schools at Bayside Academy, Head of Upper School at Buckley Country Day School, Founding Head of Secondary School at St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju in South Korea, and Deputy Director at the American International School of Lesotho. His experience spans every stage of school leadership as well as all school divisions (Early Childhood-Grade 12), from guiding strategic growth and strengthening school culture to overseeing major campus developments and launching innovative academic programs.
What sets Mr. Kriebel apart is his collaborative and community-focused leadership style. He believes that the strongest schools are built on trust, open communication, and shared purpose. Known for his approachable nature and visible presence around campus, he is passionate about empowering faculty, supporting students, and creating an inclusive environment where every member of the community feels valued, seen, known and connected.

A true global citizen, Daniel Kriebel is a proud polyglot – fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Italian, to go along with conversational Mandarin Chinese. His love of languages reflects his curiosity about people and cultures, and his belief that communication is at the heart of building strong communities.
Outside of school, Mr. Kriebel enjoys exploring new cultures, staying active, and spending time with his family and friends. He is looking forward to discovering Valencia, embracing its rich traditions, and becoming an active part of the ASV community, both on and off campus!
Hello ASV! I am delighted to be joining The American School of Valencia this summer. My family and I are busy packing our belongings and getting ready to set up our new home in Valencia. Although I met many of you during my visit on campus earlier this summer, to many of you I am a new face and for that reason, I wanted to share a little more personal information with you.
I was born and raised in New York in a monolingual home, but have chosen to live a very international, multilingual life since, largely beginning with my Rotary Youth Exchange year in Northern France, and highlighted by achieving my goal of traveling to over 100 countries many years later. I attended the incomparable Davidson College, where I accomplished my dream of playing D1 college soccer in a competitive academic environment, then moved to China after college before formally beginning my career in education at Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh.
After SSA, I earned my administrative degree from the prestigious Klingenstein Center at Columbia University’s Teacher College, then began my school leadership journey in Southern Africa fourteen years ago. With experience in leadership at International schools across continents, I know what it is like to move and what it takes to make International schools successful.
As we enter a new chapter at the American School of Valencia with a focus on academic excellence and building a strong ASV community, we are excited to welcome Mr. Kriebel and his wife, and their four children to our school; we look forward to the journey ahead and all that we will accomplish together.
