As of Friday, November 22, 2014 one hundred students from four international schools meet at American School of Valencia to participate in VALMUN 2014. Delegates from American School of Madrid, Cambridge House Community College and Oporto British School as well as the host school, ASV, will perform for three days an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate them about international relations, diplomacy and the UN agenda.
The main topic of this second edition of VALMUN is the situation of Human Rights in the African continent and the Middle East. Students will act as delegates representing a country or NGO in a four different committees: the Environmental Commission, the Human Rights Commission, the Disarmament Commission and an additional table representing the UN Security Council. Students will debate and elaborate solutions to global problems such as the situation of refugees in Middle East, the rise of militias and terrorist groups in central Africa or the current situation in Ukraine and Iraq.
The ASV Foundation and the United Nations Support Base in Valencia play a leading role supporting VALMUN. Chief of Service Management of the UN Base, Mr. Ismet Traljic, will be the keynote speaker of the Opening Ceremony scheduled on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 9:30
