VALMUN 2020 Officially Opened

American School of Valencia has officially opened VALMUN 2020, the school’s Model United Nations Conference.  The first onsite event of the 2020 edition has been attended by 58 ASV students with students from the International School of Luxembourg (ISL), the second delegation, participating virtually from Luxembourg.

The virtual keynote talk was delivered by Mr. Lino Puertas, the Liaison and Protocol Assistant from the United Nations Information and Communications Technology Facility (UNICTF) in Valencia.

VALMUN delegates will hold committee debates throughout the day from 10:00 to 17:00. Due to the global pandemic, the VALMUN format has been modified in order that the ISL delegation can participate virtually.  This was also the reason to schedule the committees’ opening sessions on November 20  and the lobbying sessions on November 26 and 27.  Debates in the three committees must follow the same stringent safety and health requirements as during regular classes on the ASV campus.

VALMUN is an important component of the ASV Model United Nations Program.  By participating in the conference, Middle School students have an important opportunity to learn about world affairs by simulating the role of United Nation delegates.
