University of British Columbia Visits ASV!

American School of Valencia had the honor of welcoming Orcun Altintas, Recruiter and Advising Officer at University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada, on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. Mr. Altintas not only gave a talk to 20 students from Grade 10, 11 and 12 but he also had the opportunity to meet with Grade 8 students in their Personal and Social Education class.

ASV students were excited to learn that UBC gives merit and need-based scholarships to international students and that students have the opportunity to design their own major. Unlike many universities, international students can acquire a visa to work part-time with the opportunity to obtain a three-year work visa after graduation and gain practical work experience in Canada.

UBC also offers students the chance to participate in varsity sports on their two campuses in Vancouver and Okanagan. The students had many interesting questions and were very engaged in the talk. Canada is an excellent option for many of our students as they have excellent universities at about half of the cost of an American university.
