Our Grade 10 Computer Science class participated in the 2024 United Nations Robotics Day Competition held last October 24, 2024. A total of sixty-five schools took part in the event, which consisted of five different tasks that robots had to complete.
“After registering the ASV teams, the UN provided a kit with a microcontroller, sensors and jump wires but students had to source their own motors, chassis and wheels and build the robot from scratch,” IT Director Mr. Samuel Landete explains. “Tasks modeled missions that UN teams carry on the field like hazardous metal detection, providing safe passage, locating landmines or securing supply chains,” he adds.
Throughout this project, students gained hands-on experience with physical computing, mechanics, problem-solving, resilience and teamwork.
