Undergraduate Students from Pennsylvania Learn about International Education

A new partnership with Slippery Rock University (a public university located in Pennsylvania) brought an exciting opportunity for 20 undergraduate university students.  As part of their educational excursion in Spain,  Slippery Rock University (SRU) provided these students an opportunity to experience international education at ASV.

“Our philosophy statement at SRU encompasses global engagement. We have an international track within our program on Elementary and Early Childhood Education and every year several faculty members take students to different countries,” Dr. Sara Tours, the university professor supervising this trip described. “We choose ASV because I studied part of my masters degree in Valencia at the Florida State University satellite campus, and I did an internship at ASV”, she commented.

The group led by Dr. Tours visited  the American School of Valencia from Tuesday, January 8 to Friday, January 11, 2019. Student-teachers, individually or in pairs, joined Preschool and Elementary classes and collaborated with ASV teachers in the regular Reading and Writing Workshop and in other areas.

According to Dr. Tours the experience has been very positive for their student-teachers, “Pennsylvania is quite homogeneous so it is nice for our students to interact with English Language Learners from other culture.”  The group will enjoy some sightseeing in Valencia and Xativa during the weekend and will fly back to the United States on Monday.

Thanks to Slippery Rock University and its student-teachers for visiting and sharing the ASV Difference!
