“Trash for Some, Treasure for Others” Exhibition

The Fine Arts Department of the Polytecnic University in Valencia and American Space Valencia are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibit “Trash for Some, Treasure for Others”. The opening will take place Monday, November 3, 2014 in the Blue Hall of Building 3N of the Fine Arts Faculty at 1:00 pm. The exhibit will be open to the public from November 3 to November 7, 2014.

The works of art are the result of a workshop with 85 young people from Real Colegio de las Escuelas Pías San Joaquín and American School of Valencia. The project consisted of two parts: students first picked up trash from El Saler beach to raise consciousness about the important of preserving our seas. In the second phase of the project, the students, led by art students from the Polytecnic University and nd Miguel Hernández University in Elche, created sculptures from this “trash” working under the motto “what can be trash for some can be treasure for others”.

The exhibit will travel to Miguel Hernández University in Elche the following week, November 10-4, 2014.

Thank you to our grade 11 and 12 students who participated, to Ms. Jackie Paarhuis, Mr. Mike Melin, Mr. Keaton Morris and Ms. Hannah Rodenhausen who led the students throughout the project and to American Space who organized the collaboration.
