After two years of safety restrictions to organize athletic events, the schools in the Iberian League have been able to meet in a volleyball tournament in Barcelona this week, on Thursday, March 24 and Friday, March 25, 2022. ASV has been represented at this event by two High School teams (boys and girls) and one Middle School team (girls). Our students have been coached by Mr. Andy Ojelade (Athletic Director), Ms. Gema Soria (ASV+ Volleyball coach) and Ms. Emily Corrigan (Elementary teacher and ASV+ Volleyball coach).
The tournament featured teams from Cambridge House Community College (Valencia), Blue Volley Club (Godella, Valencia), The American School of Barcelona, Benjamin Franklin International School (Barcelona); and ASV. “The competition has been very positive and our student-athletes worked extremely hard, demonstrated great teamwork, and represented the school very well,” Mr. Ojelade says.
After playing four games in two days, the results put the High School Boys team in the third position in their competition while the two girls’ teams were runner-ups. “What has been great to see is the extent to which individuals and teams have improved their technique and organization through their ASV plus sessions,” he remarked.
