Outstanding Participation at the ESC Soccer Tournament

A huge well done to the ASV Boys Varsity soccer team who finished 2nd in the European Sports Conference Championship in Zug (Switzerland). The tournament featured ten international schools from Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

The boys finished second in the group stage ahead of Berlin, Milan and Geneza and  behind the host school ISZL. The team then faced the Bavarian International School, who had won all of their matches, in the semi-final. A tense, high quality match finished 0-0 and both teams went to a penalty shoot out. ASV held their nerve very well and won.

In the final match, ISZL started very strong in front of a big home crowd and went into an early lead. As the game wore on, ASV were forced to take risk to get back into the game and ISZL increased their lead. The game looked over but Mauro Reig scored a goal from nowhere and ASV were. The remainder of the game was played in the ISZL half as ASV piled on the pressure but the goal wouldn’t come.

After the game, the team was presented with a trophy and individual medals. Manuel Perez and Josiah Daniel were nominated by the coaches and referees for the award of most valuable player of the tournament.

Martin Zamorano did an outstanding job of captaining the team, who have shown that ASV can undoubtedly compete with the best International Schools from across Europe.
