In July 2022, the American School of Valencia received the recognition of “Health Center” for the ASV Infirmary. This is an official validation granted by the Generalitat Valenciana and the Conselleria de Sanitat that states that our school infirmary has the facilities and equipment required for medical care as well as that its operating protocols meet the standards of this type of service.
ASV has been a pioneer school in Spain in the implementation of the infirmary service. By the end of the 90s, ASV decided to have dedicated staff to provide immediate health care. The ASV Infirmary Office has grown up to have two specific spaces on campus (the infirmary and the isolation room), full-time staff, and professional management tools. Throughout the academic year, over 5,000 requests -mainly minor incidents and indispositions- are processed. The school nurses are also in charge of chronic illnesses protocols, control of allergies and food intolerances, the school health programs (hygiene, oral health, puberty…) or training of our staff in first-aid, and the use of defibrillators (as the school has three devices).
During the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 academic years, the ASV Infirmary led the implementation of the COVID protection measures, the management of positive cases, and the de-escalation and return to pre-pandemic normality.
The current ASV Infirmary team is made up of the ASV nurse, Ms. Inma Requena, and an additional nurse, Ms. Silvia Chamorro, who works for School Nurses, a new ASV partner. School Nurses is providing a valuable experience and new management tools for the service. The ASV Infirmary has also joined the Spanish Scientific Association for School Health.
