October 2023 MSA Update

Since the founding of ASV in 1980, the Middle States Association (MSA) has been the American accreditation association of the school. As a registered centro extranjero (international school), maintenance of the school’s MSA accreditation is a requirement to operate as an international school in Spain. Consequently, ASV hosted an MSA Visiting Team in November 2019 and in May 2020, ASV earned its MSA re-accreditation for another seven years until May 2027.

The work of maintaining our MSA accreditation is an ongoing process of growth and development, and ASV would like to share this periodic update with our school community to celebrate ASV’s continued excellence in its adherence to MSA’s standards for accreditation.

Mid-Term Report

During the 2022-2023 academic year, the MSA Implementation Team completed and submitted its MSA Mid-Term Report, which is a requirement of all MSA accredited schools at the midpoint of the seven year accreditation cycle. The Mid-Term Report reflected on ASV’s continued adherence to the 12 MSA Standards for Accreditation, the school’s progress towards the four MSA Student Performance and Organizational Capacity Objectives selected by ASV as a result of its 2019 MSA Self-Study and included quantitative data on each of these objectives. As of June 2023, ASV has completed 72% of its MSA Objective Action Plans, which is well ahead of the standard competition rate of 55%.

MSA Feedback

As part of the submission of the Mid-Term Report, ASV received feedback from MSA in preparation for its next Self-Study in 2026-2027. What follows are three excerpts from the response from Dr. Priscilla Feir, MSA’s Associate Vice President for Accreditation:

You and your team are to be commended for sustaining stable governance and leadership focused on teaching and learning in a supportive environment where everyone is valued. Several explicit examples include compensation considerations to attract and retain quality personnel and reconfiguring staffing including counseling to support all students.

Strategic visioning and stable financial decisions allowed investments in facilities to further enhance the quality of education at ASV.

You and your team are to be commended for your resourceful collaborations to monitor and adjust in the name of continuous improvements. Keep up the great work!
