Last Meeting of the Sustainability Open Forum

The ASV Sustainability Open Forum held the last meeting of the 2023-2024 academic year on Monday, June 10, 2024. The goal of this session was to present the results of the waste audit conducted by the student team and report on the curriculum initiatives regarding the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) completed this year.

The waste audit is a quantitative research analysis covering three areas: litter, food waste and recycling. Three student teams collaborated and organized a plan to measure and offer conclusions on how much litter, food waste and recycling the ASV community produces. Facing those challenges and improving recycling rates at ASV will be a school wide goal in the future.

The session also looked at the implementation of the SDGs in the school curriculum, with seven different initiatives completed during the months of April-June 2024 alone and all 17 SDGs being embedded in them. The objective of embedding the SDGs in our curriculum is to ensure our students not only are aware of them, but that they understand ways to work towards achieving them through action. Participants were also informed about the recent Eco-School Project section created on the ASV website to regularly report on the initiative.

The Sustainability Open Forum meets twice a year and is composed of students, parents, faculty-staff parents and anyone in the school community interested in staying informed and contributing to the diverse sustainability actions and programs being developed by ASV as part of its eco-school initiative.
