The International Baccalaureate celebrates its 50th Anniversary on Thursday, October 25. Founded in 1968 in Geneva by a group of educators who “saw a need for an international approach to education”, the initial program for students ages 16-18 had aimed to “equip young people with the skills, values and knowledge necessary to build a more peaceful future” (IB: A vision for a better world. www.ibo.org/50years). Currently managed and supervised by the International Baccalaureate Organization, the IB comprises today four different programs which are followed by over 1.4 million students in over 4,900 schools across 153 countries.
American School of Valencia implemented the IB Diploma Program in 2004. Our school was pioneer in Valencia offering IB with the added value that subjects (except for World Languages) are taught in English. Since the it was implemented, the number of ASV students choosing this program has grown. The IB spirit also impacts the entire school throughout the Profile of the Graduate, a set of skills and values guiding our educational task based on the IB Learner Profile.
