How to Go to the United States as a Student-athlete

Grades 9, 10 and 11 participated on Thursday, September 28, 2023, in an orientation talk offered by Mr. Kevin McGlynn, an ASV parent who visited our school to share with the students information and tips on the wide range of opportunities that American universities offer to international student-athletes.

Mr. McGlynn has experience as student-athlete in Whittier College (California, United States). “When I went to Whittier, I was involved in most club sports and became active in student government. I always talk to kids about my experiences because many guys who played for our football team went on to play Division 1 in college, with two becoming NFL players from my class of only 89 students,” he recalls.

The presentation offered an overview of athletics at the university level and the role of the National Colleage Athletics Associaton (NCAA) in the admissions process.

Some students who are already exploring athletic opportunities had a chat with Mr. McGlynn and Coach Ojelade. “I want students to know that there are opportunities to continue playing sports in college,” he concludes.
