This week, Grade 5 students participated in an engaging workshop focused on the importance of the sensory experience in food enjoyment. The activity was part of the annual Día del Gusto initiative, which has been promoted for the past 30 years by Eurotoques, an international community of chefs dedicated to protecting European culinary heritage.
The workshop was led by Ms. Begoña Lluch, the Eurotoques delegate for Valencia and a former member of the ASV community. Ms. Lluch provided an accessible explanation of how the five senses—sight, touch, hearing, smell and especially taste—influence our perception and appreciation of food. Through a practical tasting of the four basic flavors, the children gained a deeper understanding of what defines each taste and its direct link to making healthy food choices.
