On Friday, May 17, 2024 our Grade 11 IB Biology and IB Chemistry students visited CEU Cardenal Herrera University to share their findings in a new edition of SWICEU, the search for new antibiotics led by this institution. SWICEU is a consolidated research project part of Small World Initiative (SWI), a crowdsourcing antibiotic discovery project that started in 2012 at Yale University which has expanded to over 330 schools across 15 countries.
Earlier this year, Dr. Beatriz Suay and Medicine student Calvin Silveira, both ASV alumni, helped our students in the lab sessions of this project which aims to fight against antimicrobial resistance while encourages studies in STEM.
