Grade 10 Sustainability Summit

An outcome of the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through a whole-school approach is the ASV Sustainability Summit that was proudly hosted on Friday, May 10, 2024. Throughout this event, Grade 10 students presented their research on one of the SDGs and demonstrated their understanding of a variety of social issues.

One of the goals of this project is “helping students learn about the topics of the research questions,” English teacher Rebecca Kudija points out, “but the second goal is to expose them to more long-term writing projects” anticipating what they will face in the IB Extended Essay or a university research. “They have to be very self-directed because a lot of this work happens outside class time, and requires a sustained effort,” Ms. Kudija adds.

The essays and the presentations included a wide range of topics such as the digital gap, environmental issues, education, income inequalities, and much more. Teachers coordinating the summit are “very proud” of our students: “in this second year of this project we have seen a lot of engagement and quality”, Ms. Kudija says. A remarkable number of parents, faculty-staff members and other classes visited the summit -held at the Athletic Center- to watch, ask questions and learn.
