The UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 on education recognizes the role of teachers to achieve the Education 2030 agenda. Each year on October 5, on the anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, this agency leads a celebration around the world to highlight the importance of education, the state of education, and the resources (and lack thereof) in many areas of the world.
«World Teachers’ Day has become the occasion to mark progress and reflect on ways to counter the remaining challenges for the promotion of the teaching profession,” UNESCO said when introducing the 2018 campaign. The World Teachers’ Day consists of a global event in Paris (city hosting UNESCO’s headquarter) which is focused in 2018 on the idea that “the right to education means the right to a qualified teacher.”
