Bridge Design Competition

Five Grade 8 students have been elected to represent ASV in the regional event of the II National Civil Engineering Olympics to be held at the Valencia Polytechnic University on April 3, 2020.

To be considered for the ASV team, students had one week to design and build a bridge using string, skewers, lollipop sticks, elastic bands, paper clips and A4 paper. Then, on Thursday, December 12, during the Advisory time, both Grade 8 classes gathered to see the projects and test the resistance with weights.  The five strongest bridges were the winners.

The ASV team will compete in the regional event against teams from other schools. Participants will face six challenges proving their skills in designing and construction of models; the event will take place at the UPV’s School of Civil Engineering.   The winning team will represent Valencia at the national finals -initially planned to be hosted by the University of Navarra-; their members will also win a scientific calculator.
