Big Draw Festival

On the occasion of the celebration of the 2021 Big Draw Festival in the United Kingdom and other countries, the ASV Arts Department organized a celebration of art involving students in Grade 1 to Grade 8 from Monday, October 25 to Friday, October 29, 2021. The activities included special art sessions for Elementary students offered by the Middle School and High School Art teacher, Ms. Christina Geourgiou, as well as full-day workshops for Middle School classes led by Ms. Georgiou, Ms. Paarhuis, and Ms. Stapleton.

Grade 11 students following the IB Diploma Program collaborated in the Plastic Dog project. This sculpture made of plastic bottles was an opportunity to welcome to ASV Ms. Rosa Montesa, an artist with notable experience using recycled plastic who also is a successful content creator on YouTube.

“It’s been lovely to spend the extra time with our students,” Ms. Georgiou comments. “All groups received a very difficult and challenging task and I have been so impressed with their maturity and creativity.”

Recycled Art: The Plastic Dog Project

Visiting artist Ms. Rosa Montesa was pleased to help ASV to create a landmark project for this event. “I have experience reusing plastic but it is the first time I have created such a large piece,” she said. “You may think it is impossible to collect this amount of plastic but, once you ask friends and relatives, you can get all you need in a short period of time”.
