ASV is Reauthorized to Offer the IB Diploma Program

American School of Valencia began its International Baccalaureate Diploma Program journey in 2002 and was authorized to offer the Diploma Program (DP) in June 2004 for the 2004-2005 academic year. One of the requirements to offer the DP is that the school and the DP itself undergo a thorough and comprehensive self-study and reflection process every five years.

ASV hosted the official IB DP Evaluation Visit on February 18-20, 2026 to review the IB Self-Study, meet with school stakeholders and review the IB DP curriculum as a fundamental aspect of the reauthorization process. The visit included meetings with IB students, families, faculty-staff, as well as numerous IB class and campus observations.

After beginning the IB review and Self-Study in late 2024, we are pleased to share that the IBO has released the IB Evaluation Report, and ASV and its DP have been re-authorized for another five years!

Some brief highlights, among the many positive strengths from the IB Evaluation Report include:

  • The board of governors, leadership team and staff are all engaged with the development and review of the school’s mission and strategy to align with its goal of becoming an IB Continuum school in order to better serve its continuously growing, diverse student community.
  • The school’s strategic facilities improvement plan prioritizes the continuous enhancement of learning spaces . . . with flexible layouts, furniture and improved lighting. These remodeled spaces invite the kind of collaborative, learning central to DP programme.
  • The school’s commitment to educational equity and access for students of all backgrounds and abilities is evident . . . .
  • Learning engagements enable students to develop the skills of making informed, reasoned and ethical judgments and taking principled action . . . on culture, identity, and ethics using real‑life scenarios and through students’ curricular work and reading literacy activities . . . .
  • Learning engagements provide students with opportunities to understand the local community and its needs, and to identify opportunities to take action.
  • Collaborative group structures are used effectively, and student engagement remains consistently strong, reflecting purposeful planning and a supportive learning environment.

Many congratulations to all of the faculty-staff who contributed to a robust and honest Self-Study and for the ongoing commitment to excellence that provides for an exemplary DP, along with a life-changing experience for our DP students and their careers.
