The recent DANA floods have impacted the Valencian Community deeply, causing a tragic loss of life along with extensive damage to families, communities, property and infrastructure. Eleven days after the events, the emergency services are making progress. The challenge now is the reconstruction and gradual, if possible, return to normal activities for schools, businesses and institutions.
Impact on the ASV Community
ASV families who live in the affected areas were contacted over the days that followed the floods by the Student Support Team. Happily, everyone was safe. On Monday, November 4, Middle School and High School classes received a special message in Advisory and observed a minute of silence at 09:40. Counselors were available to anyone who needed to share their emotions and experiences.
ASV DANA Response Committee
ASV has created an internal committee to monitor the impact of the DANA and evaluate community initiatives to contribute to the reconstruction. Initially, our school has shared information with other international schools in Spain that want to help Valencia in this difficult time.
The DANA Response Committee will inform our school community as soon as possible which initiatives will be implemented, how students, families, and faculty-staff can contribute, and what type of actions may have a long lasting impact in the affected communities.
Thank you for your empathy and support.
