American School of Valencia competed for first time in the European Sports Conference Varsity Swimming Championship. Eight students -four boys and four girls- from Middle and High School represented ASV in a two-days swimming event hosted on March 9 and 10 by the International School of Lausanne (Switzerland). The trip included an exchange experience with families from ISL and an interesting visit to the Olympic Museum, as Lausanne hosts the headquarters of the Olympic International Committee.
The competition had individual and relay events and the ASV team had outstanding performances. “The team produced an incredible result”, Athletic Director Andy Ojelade commented. “Our girls finished third of the six teams, our boys team were second and overall ASV finished second among a total of six participant schools”. Coach Ojelade remarks the individual achievement made by Henry H. (Grade 10), who was selected by all coaches as the MVP of all the boys participating. “This was due not only to his incredible performance in the pool but also due to his amazing captaincy and consistent respect towards all swimmers and officials at the event”, Mr. Ojelade pointed out.
Bad weather in Switzerland on Sunday delayed the arrival to Valencia but students and supervising teachers, Mr. Ojelade and Ms. Martí, are happy with the experience.
