This past weekend, five schools from the American and International Schools in Spain (AISiS) held a meeting for Directors and Elementary Principals to discuss their ongoing collaboration, professional development and the evolution of international education in Spain and Italy. The bi-annual meeting took place at the American School of Madrid, and past venues have included Valencia, Barcelona and Milan, Italy.
AISiS was formed in 2017 as a collaborative partnership for American and international schools in Spain and Italy. While each school is different, there are also a multitude of similarities in curriculum, serving expat communities, professional development and co-curricular activities such as Model United Nations and athletic competitions.
After a tour of the American School of Madrid’s new Middle School building, Directors and Elementary Principals focused on planning and collaboration in ongoing teacher leadership, the AISiS professional development cohorts, staff recruiting, staff wellness, and a particular emphasis was placed on Early Childhood Education (Preschool) and facilities.
“We always feel energized and inspired when we have an opportunity to come together to solve common challenges,” said ASV Director, Michael L. Smith. “As American and international schools, it is quintessential for us to collaborate and support one another, and the sharing of best practices and ideas is really unique to AISiS.”
