Promoting Literacy and Connecting with the Local Community
ASV prepares for a new edition of One Book, One School, a school-wide initiative where students, faculty-staff and families gather around the same book to build a sense of community while promoting family literacy. The book chosen this year is We Are Water Protectors, by Carole Lindstrom whose cover has inspired the event’s official poster.
The initiative includes reading activities in multiple grade levels, but also Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science lessons will establish connections with the story and the issues described by We Are Water Protectors. ASV parents and special guests from the local community will visit ASV to collaborate with our students in engaging learning activities on natural water recycling, reuse of rain in urban areas, and Native American cultures, among other topics.
