American School of Valencia has concluded the 2025-2026 academic year following the publication of the results achieved by its students in the IB Diploma, one out of the two external examinations Grade 12 students take when they finish their studies at ASV. 38 members of the 2026 cohort have earned the IB Diploma and together they achieved an average grade of 34.2 points out of 45, with a top individual score of 43 points. Furthermore, 48% of the examined students achieved or exceeded 35 points. These evaluations certify the readiness of our students to access both international higher education institutions and the Spanish university system.
The International Baccalaureate is a pre-university program globally renowned for its academic rigor and breadth, whose external assessments facilitate admission to universities worldwide. ASV was authorized to offer this program in 2004, graduating its first cohort in 2006. Two decades later, the IB Diploma has established itself as the preferred choice for the majority of students enrolling in their final two school years.
Trends in International University Choices
The Class of 2026 has secured admissions to a diverse range of universities across Europe and North America. Alongside confirmed places at Princeton University in the United States and Sciences Po in France, students have earned admission to leading institutions such as University College London, Durham, Warwick, and Glasgow, in the United Kingdom, as well as distinct European options like University College Roosevelt, University of Amsterdam, and Forward College in the Netherlands. Academically, the chosen fields of study show a preference for Engineering, Political Sciences, International Relations, and Economics.
This distribution reinforces a trend that began over 20 years ago. Since 2006 the number of students choosing higher education outside of Spain has steadily grown, now representing nearly half of the graduating class.
Historical Milestone in Spanish University Access
Regarding access to the Spanish public university system, students completed the Specific Competency Examinations (PCE) administered by UNED at the end of May. These exams are the official procedure for students coming from international schools. In this session, ASV achieved a 100% pass rate, with an average admission score of 8.36 out of 10. Additionally, 42% of the students achieved a final admission score of 12 or more points after factoring in subject weightings.
With these metrics, the school achieves ten consecutive cohorts with average scores above 8.2 points in the UNED examinations. In fact, the period spanning from the 2016-2017 academic year to the current 2025-2026 session concentrates the ten best academic results in the 46-year history of the institution.
