ASV Parent Meeting Summer 2020

ASV Parent Meeting Summer 2020

This past Wednesday, American School of Valencia held the annual Parent Meeting aimed to offer a review of 2019-2020 academic year.  The event had to be developed under stringent safety and health protocols required by the current regulations for public gatherings after the COVID-19 outbreak and participants had to follow a procedure that started with prior online registration, and, on the day of the meeting, had temperature checks, physical distancing, and the use of masks.

The meeting agenda included the presentation of the academic results and a description of two milestones for ASV in 2020: the reaccreditation with the Middle States Association to operate as an international school, and with the International Baccalaureate Organization, to offer the IB Diploma Program. The ASV director, Mr. Michael L. Smith, gave a brief description of these processes and the successful result.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was also described.  The virus outbreak and the suspension of onsite classes set by the Spanish authorities in March forced the school to implement an extensive virtual learning program and redefined collaboration and connections among all of the school community.

The Principals, Mr. Josep Vicent Frechina and Dr. Yolanda Murphy-Barrena, collaborated with Mr. Smith in presenting the plan for reopening in September 2020. Guided by a clear goal -a safe return of all of the students- the ASV leadership team is working in a contingency plan to ensure the education continuity. In addition to a wide range of campus safety upgrades, ASV will start the new academic year applying new group structures and revised health and hygiene protocols for students, staff, and visitors.
