ASV organized and hosted the latest edition of the Iberian League Basketball Tournament. The event consisted of two tournaments (one for boys and one for girls) and involved 12 teams representing the American School of Barcelona, the American School of Valencia, Benjamin Franklin International School (Barcelona), Carlucci American International School of Lisbon, and the International Bilingual School of Provence (France).
“Our three teams competed well and the overall level of play for the tournament was very high,” Coach Ojelade (ASV Athletic Director) remarked. The best result was achieved by the ASV Girls’ Varsity team, which finished third, but one of the most pleasing results was the fact that ASV was awarded the Spirit Trophy in both the boys and girls categories. “This award is voted by all participating players regarding the team which shows the best athletic behavior and fair play,” Coach Ojelade describes, “and we have won it in three out of the four International tournaments that we have participated in this year. It is a real reflection of the hard work being done by coaches, teachers, and staff at ASV in teaching values and working with PBIS on the courts and in the classroom.”
Carlucci American International School of Lisbon (Portugal) won the boys’ and girls’ tournaments. All of the student-athletes also enjoyed playing on the courts of L’Alqueria del Bàsquet, the training facilities created by Valencia Basket Club for its non-professional teams, which are also open to local schools and other visiting institutions.
Thank you to our players, coaches, and parents, for all the effort and enthusiasm.
