Growth and development is not only the domain of students. From September 1 to 6 the ASV staff developed the Work Week traditionally used to prepare and plan the new academic year. An important amount of time was assigned to professional development on literacy and PBIS.
First of all, our educators in Preschool and grades 1 through 8 worked with an internationally known trainer, Dr. Monica Medina, to bring cutting edge strategies into their daily reading instruction. As she did last year, Dr. Medina plans to meet with parents in order that our entire community understands and can support powerful learning.
A second major area of the Work Week was the implementation of the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program. Teachers also attended division and department meetings and had time for individual work in their classroom.
Each year brings positive change. This includes a few additions to our staff. Please join us in extending a warm welcome to the new members of our teaching team:
- Ms. Coleen Mann. Grades 4-10 Music Teacher (first on the left)
- Mr. Álvaro Pérez. Elementary Physical Education Teacher
- Ms. Kristen Bradford. Nursery Teacher
- Ms. Catherine Watkins. Grade 1W Teacher
- Ms. Karyna S. Samaniego. English Teacher
- Ms. Paige Primovic. Grade 2W Teacher
This group is completed with Ms. Emily Barker, who last year was substitute English teacher in High School and now will be the Visual Arts teacher in this same division. We are also happy to welcome back Ms. Esther Munteanu after a year abroad studying music education. Ms. Munteanu will be teaching Music in Preschool and Grades 1-3.
Mr. Miguel Pompa, former PE teacher, has partially retired and will be supporting Mr, Pérez in Elementary Physical Education. In High School, Ms. Jackie Paarhuis will be working as CAS Coordinator within the IB Diploma Program, as well as serving as ASV’s Internal Coordinator for accreditation.
